ORAVA QUARTET

Critics can’t get enough of Brisbane’s Orava Quartet, a young ensemble poised for global acclaim. Hailed by Limelight magazine as “the most exciting young quartet on the block” and The Australian as “one of Australia’s proudest cultural exports,” the quartet has enjoyed a rapid rise to fame for its impassioned performances of string classics.

Deutsche Grammophon selected the ensemble for its first Australian release in 2018, leading to predictions it would become “one of the most accomplished string quartets on the planet”.

The first Australian string quartet invited to sign with Universal Music, Orava has played across Australia, North America, the Middle East and Asia and worked closely with the renowned Takács Quartet. At the Sydney Festival, the four musicians—brothers Daniel (violin) and Karol Kowalik (cello), David Dalseno (violin) and Thomas Chawner (viola)—will play Mozart’s first string quartet, Erwin Schulhoff’s first string quartet and Shostakovich’s eighth string quartet.
